How to install TWRP and root Samsung Galaxy Note 9

Samsung recently announced its next flagship of the year – Samsung galaxy Note 9. More powerful, improved battery and camera with all new bluetooth integrated S-Pen are few key features of Note 9. We’ve got the unofficial TWRP support for Note 9 right after its launch, Thanks to XDA Dev team. Let’s see how to install TWRP and root Samsung Galaxy Note 9


  • Backup your data as this process will wipe out all your data.
  • Make sure your battery is more than 65%
  • Remove any lock screen security set up like finger print authorization or pass code.
  • Make sure you’ve enabled USB Debugging and OEM Unlock (Follow this simple guide to if you haven’t enabled yet)
  • Install ADB and fastboot in your PC ( Here is the simple guide to install ADB and fastboot)



This TWRP supports only Exynos International Variants:
– N960F
– N960FD
– N960N

How to Install TWRP recovery

  • Make sure you’ve enabled USB Debugging and OEM Unlock (Follow this simple guide to if you haven’t enabled yet)
  • Now reboot your device to download mode. To do so power off your device. Then press and hold power button, bixby button and volume down button together for few seconds till You see a warning message
  • Press volume up in the warning screem to continue
  • Connect your Phone to your PC
  • Open the installed Odin. You’ll see the below screen, Wait till Odin recognizes your device. If your device is not recognised, try installing Samsung Mobile Phone Drivers again
  • Once Odin recognise your device, you’ll see added message as below
  • Click on AP in the Odin tool (As Highlighted in the above image) and select the TWRP file which was downloaded earlier
  • Now press and hold the VOLUME UP + BIXBY + POWER buttons  at the same time and click on Start in Odin tool as shown below. This will start flashing process. Keep holding all the three buttons till the flashing is completed. Once the flashing is completed, you’ll see “PASS” message in the odin tool.
  • In case if this is failed or if you released the buttons by mistake, Please click on Reset button which is next to the Start button and Restart the process from beginning.If everything goes right, your device will boot into TWRP and you will see the below screen.

That is it. Now your phone is ready with TWRP.

How to Root:

Now let us proceed to Root your Samsung Note 9.

Before proceeding please download the below files in your PC/ Laptop

Once you downloaded the above file transfer the Magisk Manager app APK to your smartphone via usb cable.

Let us proceed.

1) Now boot into recovery mode. To do so, Turn off your device. Then press and hold VOLUME UP + BIXBY + POWER buttons at the same for approx. 10-15 seconds.

2) Your device will be booted into TWRP recovery mode

3) Select Install in the TWRP option, browse and select the downloaded file and swipe right to flash.

4) You may get few questions on the Screen, Just select yes for all of them.

5) Once flashing is completed, Reboot your device. Go to TWRP home page -> Reboot -> System

6) Now locate the downloaded Magisk app from manager and tap on it to install it. Follow the instructions and provide the permissions as asked.

That is it! You’ve successfully rooted your device.

To confirm it, you can download and install Root Checker from Play Store and verify if your device is rooted by granting the SuperSU permission.
